This Side Up complements Pure SEO’s brand lineup of Pure SEO, Digital Popcorn and Conversion Surgeons, completing the market leader’s e-commerce and programmatic marketing portfolio.
An ecommerce specialization couldn’t have come at a better time as COVID-19 and its associated blockages have accelerated the growth of online shopping by about six years. The future is here now, with Shopify figures confirming a 27% increase in online spending in the first half of 2021. Not all of that spending was going overseas, either; a high percentage (71%) was spent at local retailers. The opportunities are there for Kiwi businesses to seize now.
This Side Up’s nine-person team – led by CEO and industry veteran Steve Crowe – will join the Pure SEO team, increasing the total number of employees to nearly 100. This Side Up brings relationships long-time clients including Harrisons Carpets and Walker & Bijoux de la Halle. These clients will be in good company alongside Pure SEO’s enduring accounts including Subaru, Datacom and Bridgestone.
“We are delighted to have the This Side Up team by our side,” said Richard Conway, CEO and Founder of Pure SEO. “I’ve known Steve since we both started at this company over ten years ago. Not only will their offerings complement and strengthen ours, but our values are also well aligned. The genuine concern and strong customer focus that This Side Up embodies supports our mission to “go digital the right way”, and we can now offer a complete turnkey solution to e-commerce customers: an online store with SEO integrated from day one. “
“The deal was done the right way – that honest and Kiwi way that we love too -” Conway shares. “We caught up for a drink and we did it with a handshake. At the time the lawyers drafted the final documents, it was the same deal we had made. I’m excited to further leverage Steve’s valuable expertise and insights as we delve more into the ecommerce space.
Timely for more than one reason, the acquisition of This Side Up marks another milestone in a successful year for Pure SEO. Earlier this year, Pure SEO was named the Official SEO Service Provider for NZME. This follows the continued success of Richard’s book, “How to Reach the Top of Google Search” – the only Australasia-focused SEO book published to date.
A regular on the awards circuit, This Side Up wins multi-year awards from the Interactive Advertising Bureau by joining Pure SEO, which remains New Zealand’s most award-winning independent research agency.
“I’m really excited to see the next evolution of This Side Up. Our specialized e-commerce capability combined with the scale and systems of Pure SEO will be formidable.
“I didn’t consider partnering up with someone else; Pure SEO has been a leader in research and analytics for 12 years, ”says Crowe.
“This is definitely the start of something exciting! Conway adds, “It’s the perfect fit. “
