Surfer SEO is a machine learning tool used by SEOs to perform keyword research, create content strategies, and generate AI outlines.

Companies such as Square, ClickUp, and Shopify use the tool, in addition to over 15,000 other brands and agencies.

Semrush is an enterprise SEO tool used by marketers to audit websites, perform competitor analysis, and develop content strategies.

IBM, TESLA and Amazon are just a few companies that use it, in addition to more than 10 million marketing professionals.

Starting today, Surfer SEO will use backlink data from Semrush to extend Grow Flow task recommendations.

Flow Growth

Grow Flow is like your friendly SEO AI assistant.

Described on the Surfer website as an “AI growth management platform,” the tool provides a few SEO tasks each week to help you stay on track and not get lost in the mess. overwhelming amount of information that comes with learning SEO.

For example, they may recommend adding keywords (GSCs) that a website ranks for but aren’t explicitly mentioned in an article.

Or, the tool can recommend where to add internal links.

Manually researching a competitor’s backlinks is a huge drain on internal resources. Thanks to this integration, you will automatically discover new opportunities.

An industry first

So far, Semrush has not integrated with any SEO company.

Historically, Semrush has only integrated with Google products such as Search Console and Analytics, and social networks such as Facebook and Twitter.

It also works with task management tools like Trello and – but never a direct competitor to SEO.

Semrush’s “SEO writing assistant” feature is a direct competitor to Surfer’s “SEO Content Editor”: one of its most popular features.

So why team up and offer this fantastic AI assistant to search marketers for free?

I asked Tomasz Niezgoda, marketing director and partner of Surfer SEO, how this partnership came about.

“Pretty simple,” he said. “Semrush offered us to integrate Surfer into their marketplace [and] after a while we decided to give it a shot and started working on this integration.”

From the start, Semrush thought this would be a successful integration because it applied its backlink data in a customer-oriented way.

“For Semrush, this is a very significant integration. It allows Surfer SEO users to gain valuable link building insights and knowledge, which is crucial for ranking their content,” said Eugene Levin, President of Semrush.

What does that mean

Two top SEO competitors are working together to create a free tool for small business owners and first-time marketers to develop weekly best practices.

Matt Diggity, CEO and Founder of Diggity Marketing, calls the tool “Simple. Efficient. Automatic.”

“You get the list every week and get immediate information [into] what referrals your competitors are receiving. Then you can immediately start working on your own link building strategy.

The two giants hint that combining Semrush’s backlink data with Surfer’s machine learning power is just the start.

“We love each other,” Niezgoda said. “Maybe this is just the first integration to come.”
